Nothing is Easy..

"Mie.. dah buka akaun lum?"..
"Err, belum.. x sempat, inshaallah next week"..

Registering the company at SSM is very easy..
Opening a bank account seems easy but not that straightforward..
Registering for company license with Majlis is not easy..

not everything will be easy but let's persevere.. :)

Opening a Bank Account

How easy to open a company bank account?...

Seems easy but the tricky part is if the bank asks for 'company license'. For the license, it has to be registered first with the Majlis.. you know the hassle, 10 pages form with all the details bla3.. ridiculous rules and regulations. if everything needs to be complied, then how come they are so many businesses just open by the roadside, house compound etc?

Bank Islam and Bank Rakyat does not require the license but enough with the SSM Registration and copy of IC + the form (CIMB bank needs it or if not available then not a recommendation from another company is required). It will take at least 2 days to verify with Bank Negara (3 things - CTOS, ??, ??). That is difficult compared to years ago..

Once verified, a deposit of RM1,000 is needed then.. congratulations! you can start the transaction.

But then.. is it Bank Islam? CIMB or Bank Rakyat? Hmmm...

The Birth of 'Flora Tropika' - Registration of a New Company

It is a bold step today.. I have registered a new enterprise company "Flora Tropika" and it will be a launching pad for my future business. The registration is very fast!

Three names were submitted and "Rimba Flora" was registered by someone at Kelantan. Thus, it ended up with the second proposal. The certificate is ready in 30 minutes but I'll collect it next week.

Next step is to open up a CIMB account and to make it active for the first 3 months.

Change of Business Model eh?...

While driving to Bangkok, I had an interesting discussion with Abang Nuar on potential business that we can do. Unlike the typical orchid nursery, growing seedlings to mature plants would take a long time. What if we can shorten the time (holding plants) and sell them during the flowering stage? That would be better, definitely less costs and with continuous supply of plants from Thailand, this type of model is sustainable..

In a nutshell...

>>Siam nurseries will supply seedlings/plants (MS/BS/FS)  to our company>>
>>New company can hold the plants before sale [transit stage];
i.e MS - BS min 6~12 months
     NFS/BS min 1-2 months
     seedlings - NFS (ongoing for certain species only)
>>Sell the orchids to local retailers or import to ASEAN countries>>

Advantage;
1-Do not hold seedlings plants (reduce chances of plant death/diseases etc.)
2-Less costs (time shorten)
 Costs save from seedlings to MS (~1-1.5 years) - utilities/salary/fertilizer etc
 Cost saves from MS to FS would be 6-12 months!

In between, potential seedlings can still be harvested in flasks. The cost of flasking in Thailand is cheaper at an average ~RM15-20 per flask with a minimum order of 50 flask per species.

What is the difference between the current model?

>>Sibling/selfing crossing stage (3-10 months to harvest matures seedpods)
>>Sowing seedpods into flask (~ 1-2 years until deflasking stage)>>
>>Deflasking to thumb pot until MS (~1-2 years)>>
>>MS to FS will take another 6-12 months>>

Advantage;
1-Pool of protocorm/flask and ensure continuity of plants

Disadvantage
1-Laborious work in the lab (sowing - reflasking (2-3times) before deflask
2-Many stages before FS (lab - nursery - sale)
3-Cost incurred is higher than the 1st model

It is worth to try this new model and thus, let see what I can do!

Walk the Talk... Entreprenuership 3212

Entrepreneurship class for the Bachelor students commenced this week.. preaching about start up business is easy but in reality it may not be. When business does not go they way you plan, adjustment on the business model may be required. These includes adjusting your goals, strategies and expectation of the PNL.

This is the second time I am teaching the subject. As usual, 'business feasibility, business model, financial analysis and business plan' would be the main theme. Alas.. teaching is much more easier than running a business.. haha
